Devil of the Deep

The giant squid

In the rich Peruvian volcanic waters off Baja, lies a dark abyss in the Pacific Ocean where divers see a species of giant squid named “The Red Devil.” This squid can be as long as a man, weigh up to 100 lbs. and has eyes the size of billiard balls. Emerging only after dark, it ensnares its prey with hooks and suction cups and as its name implies, its shows no mercy—even for its own species.

Have you encountered doubt in the dark? Does the blackness of a situation bring anxiety? When evil attempts to grip, will you be easy prey or raise the Shield that brings peace to a quivering heart?

There was a time I found myself spiraling down, physically and mentally. When I stopped to consider the source of my anguish, God allowed me the opportunity to break free. But my freedom would have been short-lived had I not firmly focused on Him who makes all things possible.

Hold fast to His Word, throwing off dangerous hooks that might drag you deeper into darkness. “[T]ake up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (Ephesians 6:16, NIV).
